General Authority Gems

"Today, as we look at the world around us, we are faced with problems which are serious and of great concern to us. The world seems to have slipped from the moorings of safety and drifted from the harbor of peace. Permissiveness, immorality, pornography, dishonesty, and a host of other ills cause many to be tossed about on a sea of sin and crushed on the jagged reefs of lost opportunities, forfeited blessings, and shattered dreams.

"My counsel for all of us is to look to the lighthouse of the Lord. There is no fog so dense, no night so dark, no gale so strong, no mariner so lost but what its beacon light can rescue. It beckons through the storms of life. The lighthouse of the Lord sends forth signals readily recognized and never failing.... The Lord loves us and will bless us as we call upon him."

Thomas S. Monson, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

General Authority Gems

"Every human being who comes to this earth is the product of generations of parents. We have a natural yearning to connect with our ancestors. This desire dwells in our hearts, regardless of age.... No matter your situation, you can make family history a part of your life right now.... [C]hildren can draw a family tree. Youth...can help the older generation work with computers. Parents can relate stories of their lives to their posterity."

Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Scriptures of the month - October 2010

From the Bible:
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)

From the Book of Mormon:

“O Lord, my heart is exceedingly sorrowful; wilt thou comfort my soul in Christ.” (Alma 31:31)

Hymn:

Where can I turn for peace? Where is my solace
When other sources cease to make me whole?
When with a wounded  heart, anger, or malice,
I draw myself apart, Searching my soul?

Where, when my aching grows, Where, when I languish,
Where, in my need to know, where can I run?
Where is the quiet hand to calm my anguish?
Who, who can understand? He, only One.

He answers privately, Reaches my reaching
In my Gethsemane, Savior and Friend.
Gentle the peace he finds for my beseeching.
Constant he is and kind, Love without end.
